About where we are located:
About 37km from Boujaad city-Morocco, we are located in a rural area called Oued zem.According to the famous popular narration, the reason for the name came from the presence of one river at that time in it, and this river contains a lion that people fear. Hence, the Berber residents called it Wadi Zam, and the word Zam means the lion, meaning the valley of lions. As for the language, the word Zam means Live or palm, so call the silent valley.
Oued zem
Our oral folklore
Our Moroccan rug history & style.

And being an ancient trade route linking the Middle Atlas Mountains and the high Mountains.
The way we made Moroccan rugs has been affected by a very diverse style. Between the colorful carpet style of the Boujaad region, and the quality & simplicity of the famous Bani ourain carpet. This makes our style in designing and making Moroccan rugs very unique and similar to the carpets of the Azilal region in the Anti-Atlas

Our Story
A mix between need, traditions, sustainability and hobby
The beginning

Let us be honest here!

This is Not a 1000 years family that has been weaving Moroccan rugs in order to keep our Moroccan heritage. This is not a Super hyper rural area in Morocco where we haven’t seen what today’s civilization looks like.

The first reason why WAS is behind making this business is the need. The need for bread and shelter.

Being in a rural area in Morocco, where you can’t find a job, a simple job to make a living. Pushed us to find an alternative.  At a time when we lost hope, when most of the residents of the area moved to larger cities nearby to work. Our lifeline was the craft taught to us by our newest generation after generation, just for fun and as a hobby. This was a hobby that helped us to make a living.

11 years ago, and now.

In the beginning, we sold our rugs to Marrakech and Fes city resellers. They were in cities that are primary destinations for tourists.

We don’t have or have had any issues with resellers/Meadlman. But, the problem that we suffered from, is that they only visit us rarely and seasonally. Where we have to make our rugs regularly to make enough living. The hunger & our kid need isn’t seasonal.

The second reason pushes us to look for an alternative. It is the bad treatment of some Moroccan rugs resellers/middlemen that own shops in the city, especially in Marrakesh. They treat us as a second degree person. Because we are from tribal area.

Luckily, nowadays, information is not monopolized. A smartphone can teach you a lot.

Long story short, We found out that there is a website called Etsy, where you can sell if you have the skill of making handmade items. After a LONG period and with the help of our kids (that are luckily educated). We could set up a shop there and sell our first handmade rug only. It was like a dream.
7 years later here we are. Combining our handcraft and dream.
Now, we are working together (+50 women and +7 men).
We are not a big brand. We are not even a brand. The one thing that we guarantee you is that we are a fair trade that will guarantee you a rug that you’ll adore.
